What is an asynchronous bounce?

An asynchronous bounce is a hard bounce that occurs after the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) conversation has concluded.

For example, Server A sends an email to Server B, then Server B accepts the email and closes the connection to Server A. Server B later realizes it does not recognize the email address, so it then sends a bounce message to Server A.
