What is it?
The Salesforce Marketing Cloud integration for Everest allows users to automatically seed to their Everest seed list directly from their SFMC campaigns. The integration also retrieves aggregate reporting for campaign data, including job ID, sent, delivered, bounces, opens, clicks, and unsubscribes.
How does the seeding piece work?
Validity calls the Salesforce Marketing Cloud API on your behalf, using the credentials from your Installed Package, to append your seed list to campaigns sent from SFMC and surface placement data for those campaigns in the Everest UI.
When you send a campaign from SFMC that meets the criteria that you have set in the Apps & Integrations section of Everest for your SFMC integration, we will then send a second version of that campaign to your Everest seed list. This version will duplicate the creative content from your campaign, but generate its own, separate JobID and its own metrics.
How do I set it up?
First, if you have not already created your Everest Seed List, do so now. You do not need to download your seed list and upload it into SFMC; the integration will handle that for you. Learn how to create your seed list (under Creating and managing your Everest Seed List).
You will need to set up an Installed Package in your Salesforce Marketing Cloud account and provide your client ID, client secret, and tenant-specific subdomain (TSSD) for that package in the setup view for the SFMC integration in Everest. You will also need to reveal your campaign data from SFMC in Inbox Placement. Learn how to set up your integration and surface your data.
For the seeding piece of the integration, you should indicate the Minimum Campaign Send Size and the Minimum Send Time in Minutes for your integration.
These settings will determine the size and frequency of campaigns that we will add the seed list to for you. For example, if you set your thresholds to 10,000 and 60, we will seed to the first campaign that we see that meets the minimum of 10,000 subscribers once in an hour, even if other campaigns also meet the 10,000-subscriber threshold.
After the hour has passed, we will start looking for the next campaign that meets the subscriber threshold, and so on. The send time in minutes threshold can be set to 0 so that any campaign that meets the minimum subscriber threshold is auto seeded.
This will help to make sure that we are adding your seed list only to the campaigns you want to. However, as part of this integration, your Everest seed list will be added to your “All Subscribers” list in Salesforce Marketing Cloud. Any time you send to All Subscribers, this will supersede your auto-seeding thresholds and include seeds in your send. Seed addresses will also be considered "non-openers," and therefore anything sent to that subgroup will trigger a send to seeds.
Once the setup is complete in Everest, you should begin auto-seeding campaigns sent from SFMC according to your thresholds.
How will this impact my product usage?
This integration will count against your Everest Placement events, as well as your SFMC API and email event usage.
For auto-seeding, Everest makes one API call to SFMC every 10 minutes (144 times per day) to check for campaigns that have met your desired minimum campaign size. During your first auto-seeded event, Everest will also make several dozen API calls to set up the seed list and prepare the initial send. Subsequent sends should require less than 10 API calls per send. Each auto-seeded campaign will count as one SFMC email campaign (unique SFMC JobID) and one Everest placement event.
Most customers will use fewer than 200,000 API calls per year when using the Salesforce Marketing Cloud Integration; actual usage is based on your auto-seeding settings and number of campaigns sent. Please reference which SFMC edition you have to confirm how many API calls you can make per year.
Can I still manually seed even if I have auto-seeding enabled?
Yes, you can always manually seed to any campaign that doesn't meet your thresholds for auto-seeding. Learn how to manually seed to SFMC campaigns.
I set up my integration, but I got this error message: "There was a problem linking your account. If the problem persists please contact support." What do I do?
