How do I make sure my host names clearly identify my sending identity?

Sender host names must clearly identify their sending identity. When scaling your Mail Transfer Agent (MTA) complexes, you should not overuse the root domain, because this practice raises concerns of spammer-like behavior. Spammers often add characters to their domain names to evade domain-level blacklists.

The following examples show host name naming conventions you should avoid:

  • mx.organization.com
  • mx.organizationProductA.com
  • mx.organizationProductB.com
  • mx.organizationProductC.com
  • mx.organizationProductD.com

  • Mx.organization.com
  • Mx1.organization.com
  • Mx2.organization.com
